Which Thai Embassy or Consulate Covers My State?
Four Royal Thai missions divide the United States between them. Every state belongs to exactly one. Find yours below.
The short answer
Since January 2025 every standard Thai visa is filed online at the e-Visa portal, so you will not visit any of these offices to apply. But the portal still routes your file to the mission that covers where you live, and filing under the wrong mission is one of the most common reasons an application is rejected. That is what this map is for.
For a normal holiday most readers need nothing at all: US passport holders get a 60-day visa exemption on arrival, extendable by 30 days inside Thailand.

Honorary consulates cannot issue your visa
Several US cities have a Royal Thai honorary consul — Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, Portland. Searching for “Thai consulate” in one of these cities will find them, and it is easy to assume they handle visas.
They do not. In the United States honorary consuls are private appointees who assist Thai nationals and support trade links. They do not accept or issue visa applications. Whichever city you are in, your application goes through the e-Visa portal under one of the four missions in the table above.
We deliberately do not publish honorary-consulate addresses here. They change with the appointee, and a stale address is precisely the wasted trip this page exists to prevent. If you need one for a Thai-national service, confirm it with the mission that covers your state first.

Which Thai embassy or consulate covers my state?
The United States is divided between four Royal Thai missions. Washington DC covers 13 southern and mid-Atlantic states plus DC and Puerto Rico. New York covers 10 northeastern states plus Ohio. Chicago covers 14 midwestern states. Los Angeles covers 13 western states plus Hawaii and the US Pacific territories. Every state belongs to exactly one mission.
Does it still matter which Thai consulate covers my state if I apply online?
Yes. Since January 2025 all standard Thai visas are filed through the e-Visa portal at thaievisa.go.th, but the portal routes each application to the mission responsible for the applicant's territory. Filing under the wrong mission is one of the most common rejection reasons.
Which Thai consulate covers Texas?
Texas is covered by the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC, not by a consulate-general. The Houston and Dallas honorary consulates do not process visa applications.
Which Thai consulate covers Ohio?
Ohio is covered by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York, not Chicago. It is the most commonly misfiled state in the US jurisdiction map.
Can a Thai honorary consulate issue my visa?
No. Royal Thai honorary consulates in the United States — including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami and Portland — do not accept or issue visa applications. They assist Thai nationals and support trade. Your visa application goes through the e-Visa portal under whichever of the four missions covers your state.
Do US citizens need a visa to visit Thailand?
Not for a short trip. US passport holders receive a 60-day visa exemption on arrival, extendable by 30 days at a Thai immigration office. A visa is only required for stays beyond that or for non-tourist purposes such as work, study or retirement.
