The Royal Thai Embassy at Alpes 365 in Lomas de Chapultepec is Thailand's embassy in Mexico. It is the visa mission for Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti and Belize, and accepts applications from anyone physically present in one of those seven countries, whatever their nationality.
The news for Mexican travellers is that Mexicans now need a visa for Thailand. The embassy's visa page, updated 7 September 2026, says: "As of 15 September 2026, nationals of Mexico, Guatemala, and Cuba holding ordinary passports will be required to obtain a Thai visa to enter Thailand, regardless of the purpose of their travel, due to the revocation of the 60-day Visa Exemption scheme, in accordance with the Notifications of the Ministry of Interior, published on 31 August 2026."

Hours note. The embassy's Office Hours page gives Monday to Friday, 09:00–16:30, while the site footer says 10:00–16:00. Both agree that visa and legalisation matters are handled 10:00–13:00. Call ahead if you plan to visit in the afternoon.
Which Areas This Mission Covers
The embassy states: "The countries under the Embassy's jurisdiction are Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, Haiti, and Belize."
It accepts applications "regardless of the applicant's nationality or residency status, provided that the applicant is physically present and remains in one of the countries under its jurisdiction throughout the application process, from application submission to visa issuance." You must also be travelling to Thailand from one of these countries. That is more flexible than missions that insist on residence, such as the Gulf embassies: a traveller passing through Mexico can apply here, as long as they stay in the district until the visa is issued.
Proof of location can be:
- Nationals: a copy of the national ID card (INE in Mexico) or, for minors, a birth certificate
- Residents: a temporary or permanent residence card
- Others: a passport copy with the entry stamp into one of the seven countries, the visa used to enter (if any), and proof of accommodation there
US residents apply through the Washington embassy or a US consulate such as Los Angeles, not through Mexico City.
Do You Need a Visa?
Mexican passport holders: yes, since 15 September 2026. Mexico was visa-exempt under the 60-day scheme that ended on 14 September 2026. It is not on the new 30-day list, and the embassy now requires a visa for every trip, holidays included. The same applies to Guatemalan and Cuban ordinary passports. The embassy adds that nationals of Honduras, Nicaragua and Belize "continue to require a Thai visa", with no change.
The embassy's notice does not address travellers who entered Thailand before 15 September 2026. If that is you, ask the Thai immigration office where you are staying.
Other nationals present in the district follow their own passport's rules. Americans, Canadians and most Europeans, for example, are on the 30-day exemption list. Check with the visa finder, and see visa exemption and the 30-day change.
Which visa for a Mexican tourist? A Tourist Visa. The embassy says the tourist visa generally allows 60 days per entry, extendable by up to 30 days at a Thai immigration office. The embassy says a single-entry visa is generally valid for 90 days, so do not apply too early. Longer or work-related stays need a Non-Immigrant visa, and remote workers can look at the DTV.
At the border, officers may ask for accommodation bookings, an onward or return ticket and funds of at least 20,000 THB per person. These can be shown digitally. Everyone must file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (tdac.immigration.go.th) within three days before arrival.
How to Apply
- Register at thaievisa.go.th and choose the Royal Thai Embassy, Mexico City.
- Enter your names in the embassy's format. Given name: primer nombre. Middle name: segundo nombre. Family name: primer apellido plus segundo apellido. The embassy cannot correct wrong data; you would have to reapply.
- Upload proof of location (INE, residence card, or entry stamp plus accommodation).
- Accommodation. A summary of every place you will stay, plus bookings from the hotel or a platform such as Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia, Trip.com or Airbnb, in chronological order and covering every night. Confirmations issued only by a travel agency are not accepted. Staying with a host needs an invitation letter, the host's ID, and their house registration (tabian baan) or lease.
- Flights. A summary of your full itinerary with airline or booking-platform reservations for every leg, including connections and any trips out of Thailand and back. Agency itineraries are not accepted. Underline names and dates.
- Funds. Bank statements with closing balances for the last three months, each at or above the minimum. Convert non-USD, non-THB balances with a screenshot or note. Only debit or savings accounts count.
- Pay on the portal. Fees are non-refundable.
An application needing more than two modifications is cancelled, so get it right first time. Allow about 5–10 business days and apply at least a month before travel. See our e-Visa guide for the portal.
Practical Notes
Legalisation is a chain, not an apostille. Thailand is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so apostilled Mexican documents are not valid there. The embassy's legalisation page sets out the chain: the issuing authority and Secretaría de Gobernación, then the SRE, then an English translation by a perito traductor certified before a notary, then the Thai embassy, then a Thai translation and final legalisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.
DTV evidence. For the workation DTV the embassy asks for a CV, a letter describing your work, three work samples and three proofs of payment. Since 31 August 2026 DTV applicants also need proof of permanent residence where they apply and a criminal record clearance certificate.
