The Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara is Thailand's visa office for five countries: Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Georgia, North Macedonia and Turkmenistan. The embassy's e-Visa announcement covers anyone currently in Türkiye, so residents of Istanbul, Izmir or Antalya file their e-Visa with Ankara too.
The embassy's own announcement sets the test as where you are, not your passport. From 8 October 2024, a foreign national "who is currently in" one of those five countries and wants a Thai visa must apply through the e-Visa platform, choosing Ankara. Ankara also has one of the shortest stated processing times in the region: up to 5 business days after a complete application.

Which Areas This Mission Covers
The embassy's Announcement No. 7/2567, dated 24 September 2024, names the five countries: the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Republic of North Macedonia and Turkmenistan. The Thai Foreign Ministry's list of mission contact points (December 2025) gives Ankara the same five.

Do You Need a Visa?
The five countries in Ankara's district fall into three different groups.
- Türkiye and Georgia: both are on Thailand's 30-day list. Since 15 September 2026, Turkish and Georgian passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism. One extension of up to 30 days costs 1,900 THB at a Thai immigration office (extension guide). Exemption entries over land borders are capped at twice per calendar year, and you should carry funds of 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family).
- Azerbaijan: Azerbaijani passport holders are one of three nationalities eligible for a visa on arrival: up to 15 days, 2,000 THB, at designated checkpoints, with no extension except for illness. For longer or non-tourist trips, apply through Ankara before travel. See visa on arrival.
- North Macedonia and Turkmenistan: neither appears on the 30-day, 15-day, visa-on-arrival or bilateral lists in force since 15 September 2026. Plan on an e-Visa before you fly, and confirm with the embassy at [email protected] if you are unsure.

How to Apply
Since 8 October 2024 Ankara takes visa applications only through thaievisa.go.th. You no longer hand in your passport or original documents at the embassy.
- Create an account at thaievisa.go.th. One account can file up to 10 applications.
- Choose your visa type. The portal lists the documents, fee and length of stay for each type.
- Select the Royal Thai Embassy, Ankara as the mission. You must be in one of the five district countries, not in Thailand, when you apply.
- Check the spelling of your name, middle name, surname and email address. The embassy warns that a mistake can lead to rejection, and the fee is not refunded in any case.
- After approval, print the confirmation email and show it to the airline and to Thai immigration.
The embassy points applicants to the portal's video user manuals and to the FAQ "Am I eligible to apply online?" before starting.
Long stays. For work, study, retirement or family, look at the Non-Immigrant O, O-A, B or ED visas. For remote workers, the DTV now requires you to apply where you are a national or permanent resident, with a criminal record certificate (rule in force since 31 August 2026). Practical Notes
Legalisation is mornings only. The embassy's footer gives 09:30 to 12:00 for legalisation, Monday to Friday, even though the consular section works until 16:30. Check the "Legalisation" page for the documents required before you go.
Istanbul goes through Ankara. The embassy's e-Visa announcement names Türkiye as a whole, so visa matters for all of Türkiye, Istanbul included, run through the e-Visa system and the embassy in Ankara.
