The Royal Thai Embassy in Athens, in the northern suburb of Paleo Psychico, issues Thai visas to people who hold residence permits and currently live in Greece, Malta or Serbia. That grouping surprises people from Malta, which is nowhere near Athens, and from Serbia, which many expect to fall under Budapest or Vienna.
The embassy is firm about the residence rule. Applications from people who do not hold a residence permit and do not live in one of those three countries are rejected, and the fee is not refunded.

Which Areas This Mission Covers
The embassy's e-Visa page says it "only has the authority to issue visa to applicants who have residence permits and are currently living in Greece, Malta and Serbia." The Thai Foreign Ministry's list of mission contact points (December 2025) assigns the same three countries to Athens.
Cyprus is not on the list. The Ministry places Cyprus under the Royal Thai Embassy in Rome, along with Italy, Albania and San Marino. North Macedonia goes to Ankara, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo go to Budapest.
Do You Need a Visa?
The answer differs across the district.
- Greece and Malta: both are on Thailand's 30-day list. Since 15 September 2026, Greek and Maltese passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism. One extension of up to 30 days costs 1,900 THB at a Thai immigration office (extension guide). Exemption entries over land borders are capped at twice per calendar year, and immigration can ask for funds of 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family).
- Serbia: Serbian passport holders are one of only three nationalities eligible for a visa on arrival: up to 15 days, 2,000 THB, at designated checkpoints, with no extension except for illness. For anything longer, or for a purpose other than tourism, apply for an e-Visa through Athens before you travel. See visa on arrival.

How to Apply
Athens replaced its counter and postal applications with the e-Visa platform in November 2022. Everything goes through thaievisa.go.th.
- Create an account and choose the Royal Thai Embassy, Athens.
- Spell your name exactly as the English name in your passport. Special characters are not accepted. Leave the middle-name field blank if your passport has none; don't type "-" or "N/A".
- Choose "Ordinary Passport" unless you are a government official. Your passport needs more than 6 months' validity on the day you arrive.
- Upload the passport bio page as JPEG and everything else as JPEG or PDF, in English or with an English translation. The embassy asks you not to upload phone photos of documents; scan multi-page documents into one PDF.
- For a tourist visa, include a return ticket.
- Pay online. Once submitted, the application cannot be amended and the fee is not refunded.
Timing rules from the embassy:
- The visa is valid for 3 months, so applications made more than 3 months before your trip are rejected.
- If you already hold a valid, unused Thai visa, a second application is rejected.
- If the embassy asks for more documents, you have 30 days to upload them in your e-Visa account, or the application is rejected.
- Approval takes about 7 to 10 business days.

Practical Notes
Visa counter hours are mornings only. The visa and consular section keeps 09:00 to 13:00, while the embassy itself works until 17:00. Call the visa line (+30 210 675 6978) in the morning.
Greek email domains. The embassy's addresses are on otenet.gr, not an embassy domain. Visa and consular mail goes to [email protected]. Thai-nationals-only services (passports, civil registration) use a separate Gmail address.
