The Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid is the Thai visa mission for everyone living in Spain and Andorra, whatever their nationality. The embassy lists honorary consulates in Barcelona and Tenerife, but visa applications from Spain and Andorra go through the e-Visa system to Madrid.
The mistake this embassy warns about most directly is applying too early. Its visa page says to apply one or two months before travel and not more than three months, or the application will be cancelled.

Which Areas This Mission Covers
The embassy's visa page says it serves "Non-Thai nationals, including citizens of Spain and Andorra, and other nationalities with residence in Spain and Andorra." Its DTV page is blunter: without legal residence in Spain or Andorra you cannot request a visa there.

Proof of residence differs by country. For a tourist visa, non-Spanish nationals living in Spain show their NIE residence card. Residents of Andorra who are not Andorran citizens show a copy of their Andorran residence card instead.
Honorary consulates. The embassy lists honorary consulates in Barcelona and Tenerife. We don't publish their details; for visas, residents of Catalonia and the Canaries file online like everyone else, and the file is handled for Spain and Andorra by the embassy in Madrid.
Do You Need a Visa?
Spanish passport holders are in the 30-day visa exemption tier that took effect on 15 September 2026. For a holiday you get up to 30 days on arrival, for tourism only, with nothing to apply for.
- One extension of up to 30 days is available at any Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB, taking a trip to about 60 days. See the visa exemption extension guide.
- Land-border entries on the exemption are limited to two per calendar year.
- Anyone who entered before 15 September 2026 keeps the stay they were granted.

Andorra is not on the 30-day exemption list. Andorran citizens should check with the Madrid embassy what they need before booking a trip.
You need the embassy for:
- Stays longer than 30 days plus one 30-day extension
- A tourist visa, single or multiple entry
- Non-Immigrant visas: B for work, business or teaching, ED for study, O for family or NGO volunteering, or O-A for retirement
- The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)
- Legalisation of Spanish documents
How to Apply
The embassy says you must apply on thaievisa.go.th and no longer need to hand in your passport or original documents at the embassy.
- Register on the portal and choose Spain or Andorra as your country of residence. Our e-Visa guide explains each screen.
- Apply one or two months before travel, never more than three. Applications made further ahead are cancelled, according to the embassy.
- For a single-entry tourist visa, the embassy's checklist is: a biometric passport valid for at least six months, one photo taken within six months (facing forward, no sunglasses, head uncovered), your NIE or Andorran residence card if you are not a citizen of that country, a return or onward ticket or reservation, and confirmed hotel bookings covering your whole stay.
- Pay online and wait for the result by email.
The embassy reserves the right to ask for extra documents.
DTV applicants need a biometric passport valid for six months or more, a recent photo, and a bank statement or account certificate showing at least 500,000 THB (or a sponsorship letter). The DTV page covers remote workers, soft-power activities such as Muay Thai or medical treatment, and family members of DTV holders.

Practical Notes
Consular mornings only. The consular section works 09:30 to 13:30. Its phone line (extensions 101, 102 and 103) runs 15:00 to 17:00; outside those hours, use the consular email address on the contact page.
Legalisation. Spanish documents must first be legalised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The embassy then charges EUR 15 in cash for each stamp of the Spanish ministry and estimates two working days.
Remaining 2026 closures. The embassy's holiday list shows it closed on 12 October (Spain's National Day), 13 October, 23 October, 2 November, 7 and 8 December, 25 December and 31 December 2026. It closes for both Spanish and Thai holidays.
