The Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo handles Thai visas for applicants in Norway and Iceland. If you live in Reykjavik, this is your embassy: the Oslo site says e-Visa applicants must be able to confirm they are in Norway or Iceland while the visa is processed.
That condition is where people go wrong. Being in the country during processing is part of the rule, so filing from a holiday in Spain or from Thailand itself will not work through Oslo.

The embassy's "How to apply for visa" page says applicants "must be able to confirm that the applicants are currently in Norway or Iceland during the time of visa procession." Its DTV page asks for proof of permanent residence in Norway or Iceland and a Norwegian or Icelandic police clearance certificate.

Do You Need a Visa?
For a normal holiday, no. Norway and Iceland are both in the 30-day visa exemption tier that started on 15 September 2026. You get up to 30 days on arrival, for tourism only.

- Anyone who entered before 15 September 2026 keeps the stay they were given.

- A tourist visa, which the embassy says allows a stay of up to 60 days per entry
- A Non-Immigrant O retirement visa or the 10-year O-X long-stay visa (both have their own pages on the embassy site)
- The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)
- Legalisation of Norwegian or Icelandic documents
How to Apply
All visas are filed at thaievisa.go.th. The embassy recommends reading the portal's user manual and video tutorials first. Our e-Visa guide covers the same ground.
- Register on the portal and pick Norway or Iceland as your place of residence.
- Apply at least two weeks and no more than ten weeks before your arrival date. The embassy warns against applying more than 90 days ahead.
- Upload the documents for your visa type.
- Pay online. The embassy states that visa fees are not refunded in any case.
- Stay in Norway or Iceland until the decision arrives.

For the retirement visa, the embassy says it does not accept selvangivelse or skatteoppgjør as financial proof, so bring pension statements or bank statements instead.
Practical Notes
Visa email replies take up to four working days, according to the embassy's contact page. Allow for that on top of the processing time.
Consular counter hours are short. Thai ID card and passport applications are taken Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 12:00, with collection from 13:00 to 15:00.
Legalisation is by appointment, cash only. A document must be translated into English, certified by a notary public (for example the district court, tingrett), and legalised by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The embassy then charges NOK 200 per stamp, cash only, exact amount. It checks that signatures and stamps are genuine, not the content of the document.
