The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad is in the Diplomatic Enclave in Sector G-5/4. It is one of two Thai missions in Pakistan that issue visas; the other is the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Karachi. Since 1 January 2025 all applications are made online at thaievisa.go.th. The part you still do in person is paying: the embassy takes the fee in cash at its Visa Gate, and processing takes about 14 working days after that.
Pakistani passport holders should plan on needing a visa. Pakistan is not on any of the exemption or visa-on-arrival lists in force since 15 September 2026.

Islamabad or Karachi?
The embassy's e-Visa FAQ (March 2025) says the application "must be submitted to the Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad or the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Karachi where the applicant is currently located". Neither mission publishes a list of provinces on the pages we checked, so the embassy's wording is the only guide. Our reading is that you pick the mission nearer to where you are staying. If you are unsure, email [email protected] before you pay, because fees are never refunded.
Two rules apply to both missions:
- You must be physically in Pakistan for the whole e-Visa process.
- You must upload proof of current location, for example a rental agreement, a utility bill or your Pakistani immigration stamps. Applications without it are rejected.
Do You Need a Visa?
Pakistani citizens: plan on yes. Four Interior Ministry announcements in the Royal Gazette of 31 August 2026 set Thailand's entry rules from 15 September 2026. Pakistan is not among the 60 countries with a 30-day exemption, not on the visa-on-arrival list (now Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia only), and has no bilateral exemption for ordinary passports on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list. Apply for an e-Visa before you travel.
Extensions are short. Thai Immigration Division 1's criteria cap tourism extensions at 7 days for nine nationalities, including Pakistan. Choose a visa that covers your full stay.
Foreigners in Pakistan follow the rules for their own passport. Many Western passports get 30 days visa-free since 15 September 2026; see visa exemption.
The e-Visa types available through the embassy are tourist, transit, Non-Immigrant, and diplomatic and official visas. Its visa pages also cover medical treatment, business, education, the Non-ED Plus, the SMART visa and Thailand Elite. Useful guides:

How to Apply
The embassy's "Thailand's E-Visa System in Pakistan" FAQ sets out the steps:
- Create an account at thaievisa.go.th. One account can hold applications for you and up to 10 family members at a time.
- Choose the visa category and select the Royal Thai Embassy, Islamabad.
- Upload your passport biodata page, a photo taken in the last 6 months (JPG, under 3 MB), proof of current location and the supporting documents for your category.
- Pay offline in cash. Bring the application confirmation and the cash to the embassy's Visa Gate, 09:30-13:00 or 14:00-15:30 on working days.
- Track the application in your account. You can withdraw it, but the fee is not refunded.
- Print the e-Visa. It arrives by email. The embassy says mobile or electronic copies are not accepted: show a printout at check-in and to Thai immigration.
Genuine bookings only. The embassy warns that fake airline tickets or hotel bookings lead to immediate rejection, and the applicant or travel agent may be blacklisted. It also says anyone can apply without an agent and that you should not pay anyone who claims connections.

Read 27 Sep 2026. Diplomatic, official and courtesy visas and UN laissez-passer holders are exempt from fees.
Practical Notes
Visitors arrive by Diplomatic Shuttle. The embassy's location page says visa-section visitors must take the Diplomatic Shuttle from the stop on Third Avenue near Quaid-e-Azam University Road, G-5. The shuttle costs 2,000 rupees. Bring identification, preferably your passport. Everyone is searched, and luggage, electronics and cameras are not allowed on the premises.
Visa hours differ between pages. The location page gives visa and legalisation services as 09:00-13:00, the visa timing page as 09:30-13:00, and the e-Visa FAQ gives cash payment hours of 09:30-13:00 and 14:00-15:30. Arriving between 09:30 and 12:30 fits all three.
Ramadan hours. The embassy publishes shorter hours during Ramadan. In 2025 the payment window was 09:30-14:30 Monday to Thursday and 09:30-12:30 on Friday.
Report fraud. The embassy's FAQ asks applicants to report anyone requesting extra money or offering illegal visa services.
