The Royal Thai Embassy in The Hague is the only Thai mission that issues visas in the Netherlands. It handles Thai e-Visa applications from people who live in the Netherlands, and nobody else.
The rule applicants get wrong is location. The embassy states it can only serve applicants who are in the Netherlands for the entire visa process. A Dutch national living abroad, or already in Thailand, cannot apply through The Hague, and a file submitted from outside the country will be rejected. The second trap is timing: the embassy asks you to apply at least one month and no more than two months before you travel, and it rejects any file submitted more than 90 days before arrival.

Which Areas This Mission Covers
The embassy's own conditions are short: residents of the Netherlands who are currently living in the Netherlands may apply for e-Visas with the embassy in The Hague. Nationality is not the test. A Thai-visa applicant of any nationality who lives in the Netherlands files here; a Dutch citizen who lives in Belgium or Germany files with the Thai mission for that country.
The Thai embassy's website also lists an Honorary Consulate-General in Amsterdam. The e-Visa itself goes to the embassy, so Amsterdam is not where your visa file ends up.
Two conditions sit on top of residence:
- You must be outside Thailand. The embassy notes that a Thai visa is for entering Thailand and is issued to people outside it. Applications from applicants already in Thailand are rejected.
- Some nationalities wait longer. The embassy says applications by certain nationals can take up to three months.
Do You Need a Visa?
For a holiday, no. Dutch passport holders get a 30-day visa exemption on arrival under the rules in force since 15 September 2026 (the Netherlands is on the 30-day list). You can extend once, by up to 30 days, at a Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB, so roughly 60 days in total. The exemption is for tourism only, and land-border entries on it are capped at two per calendar year. Anyone who entered before 15 September 2026 keeps the stay they were given. When we checked on 16 September 2026, the embassy's "E-Visa Categories" page still said Dutch passport holders can stay up to 60 days visa-free. That was the old scheme; the 30-day rule applies from 15 September 2026.
You need the embassy when you want:
- A single- or multiple-entry tourist visa for a longer holiday
- A Non-Immigrant visa: business, study, retirement (O-A, O-X), marriage or family
- The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)
- Legalisation of a Dutch document for use in Thailand

How to Apply
- Create an account at thaievisa.go.th and read the portal's user manual first. The embassy cannot edit your personal details for you once they are in.
- Select the Royal Thai Embassy, The Hague as your mission.
- Upload the documents for your visa category. The embassy may ask for more, and proof of residence in the Netherlands may be requested.
- Pay the fee online by debit or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). It is not refunded once paid.
- The approved visa arrives by email. No sticker goes in your passport, and you do not send your passport or visit the embassy unless it asks you to.
Answer requests fast. If the embassy asks for further documents and you do not submit them within 45 days, the application is cancelled without notice.
Time it. The embassy's general conditions say to apply at least one month, but no longer than two months, before your travel date, because most visas are valid for 60 to 90 days from issue. Files submitted more than 90 days before your intended arrival are rejected.

Practical Notes
Legalisation runs on appointments, not walk-ins. Foreign (Dutch) documents must first be legalised by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Then book a legalisation appointment through the embassy's online system. The fee is €15 per legalisation, paid by card (PIN) only, no cash. Processing takes at least two to three working days.
Collection or post. You can pick up legalised documents on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday between 13:30 and 14:00. If you want them posted, buy a PostNL registered-mail barcode and bring it with your envelope to the appointment; the embassy says processing before dispatch is about four to five working days.
Every consular service needs an appointment. Visa applications are online only, so the counter is for legalisation and services for Thai nationals. Phone and email are for enquiries.

Where do I apply for a Thai visa in the Netherlands?
Online at thaievisa.go.th, with the Royal Thai Embassy in The Hague selected as your mission. It is the only Thai mission handling visas for residents of the Netherlands. There is no counter submission.
How long does a Thai e-Visa from The Hague take?
