The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, at 94 Pyay Road in Dagon Township, handles Thai visas for Myanmar citizens and for foreigners who live in Myanmar. Applications have been online-only at thaievisa.go.th since 1 January 2025, but payment is not. You book a payment slot online, then pay the fee in US dollar banknotes at the embassy's visa section. The embassy's clock for a decision, up to 15 days, starts from that payment.
Myanmar ordinary passport holders are covered by a bilateral agreement that allows a short visa-free stay, but only for entry by air. Anyone planning a longer trip, or crossing by land, needs a visa.

Who This Embassy Serves
The embassy handles:
- Myanmar citizens applying for any Thai visa, including the Non-Immigrant L-A visa for workers under the Thailand-Myanmar MOU scheme (filed by MOU companies only)
- Foreigners living in Myanmar, especially those holding a Foreigner Registration Certificate (FRC)
- Thai nationals in Myanmar (passports, legalisation, consular help)
Non-residents face long checks. The embassy lists 29 nationalities with extra requirements when applying in Yangon. Nationals of Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Iran and 17 other countries who do not hold an FRC face a background check with Ministry of Foreign Affairs approval that takes up to 4 weeks. The embassy advises them to apply in their home or residence country instead. Chinese nationals may apply for a tourist or transit visa here only if they are resident in Myanmar, and Nigerian nationals only with an FRC.
Do You Need a Visa?
Myanmar citizens. Myanmar is not on the 30-day exemption list that took effect on 15 September 2026, but a bilateral agreement still applies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' list of bilateral exemptions for ordinary passports gives Myanmar citizens 14 days, for entry through international airports only. Bilateral agreements were not changed by the September 2026 rules. So:
- A short trip of up to 14 days, flying in: no visa needed.
- Entry over a land border, or a stay longer than 14 days: get a visa before you travel.
Myanmar is not on the visa-on-arrival list, which since 15 September 2026 covers only Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. The embassy's "Do I need a visa?" page still links to an online visa-on-arrival service; that link belongs to the old arrangements.
Foreigners in Myanmar follow the rules for their own passport. Most Western passports get 30 days visa-free since 15 September 2026, but exemption entries over land borders are capped at two per calendar year. The embassy's own page repeats that cap. How to Apply
The embassy's "Visa Services" announcement sets out the process:
- Apply at thaievisa.go.th and select the Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon.
- Get the Payment Info Summary, which carries a Request No. and a QR code.
- Book a payment slot at thaiconsularyangon.com/evisapay. One Request No. per day, and up to 10 applicants per Request No.
- Print or screenshot the reservation confirmation and bring it with the Payment Info Summary. The embassy can turn away anyone whose details do not match.
- Pay in US dollars at the visa section, 09:00-11:30 on the embassy's working days. It accepts only new banknotes in perfect condition and says 50-dollar notes are "not preferable".
- Receipt by email. It arrives in about 15 minutes; the counter no longer issues paper receipts.
- Wait up to 15 working days from payment. The consular officer may ask for more documents or an interview.
MOU workers (Non-Immigrant L-A): only MOU companies can apply, and they book payment through a separate log-in at thaiconsularyangon.com/labour-visa.
Fraud. The embassy warns that fraudulent documents can lead to a lifetime ban from entering Thailand.

Read 27 Sep 2026. The embassy says fees may change with the exchange rate and Thai regulations. They are non-refundable whether the visa is approved, cancelled or refused.
Practical Notes
Bring clean, new notes. Payment is cash only, in US dollars. Creased or marked notes can be refused, and you would lose your slot.
Remaining 2026 closures. The embassy's 2026 holiday list closes it on 23 October, 26 October (Thadingyut), 23 November, 7 December, 25 December and 31 December, plus weekends.
Proof of funds. The embassy's visa page still gives 10,000 THB per person as the funds to show on arrival. Under the rules in force since 15 September 2026 the exemption figure is 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family; 10,000 THB is the visa-on-arrival figure. Carry the higher amount. Crossing by land. If you plan to enter Thailand overland from Myanmar, check the crossing first.
