If you live in Hat Yai, the office you need is called Songkhla Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดสงขลา), and despite the name it is in Hat Yai, not in Songkhla town. Its foreigner services (extensions, 90-day reports, re-entry permits, TM30) are at 103 Phetkasem Road, Hat Yai. The mistake people make is heading to the other immigration address in Hat Yai: the Immigration Division 6 headquarters at 94 Moo 1, Tambon Thung Tam Sao. That is the regional command for the southern provinces, not the counter where residents of Hat Yai file their paperwork.

Which Areas This Office Covers
Under a Royal Thai Police announcement of 5 April 2012, Songkhla Immigration is responsible for Songkhla province and its immigration checkpoints, except the Hat Yai airport checkpoint and Padang Besar subdistrict, which have their own checkpoints. Within that area its own unit list splits the work like this:
| Unit | Location | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Administration and immigration services | 103 Phetkasem Road, Hat Yai | Extensions, 90-day reports, re-entry permits, TM30 |
| Songkhla Port checkpoint | Laeng Phra Ram Road (ถนนแหล่งพระราม), Tambon Bo Yang, Mueang Songkhla 90000; tel. 074-313-480 | Responsible for Mueang Songkhla and Singhanakhon districts |
| Sadao checkpoint | Tambon Samnak Kham, Sadao | Land crossing to Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah |
| Ban Prakop checkpoint | Tambon Ban Prakop, Na Thawi | Land crossing to Kota Putra, Padang Terap, Kedah |
| Detention unit | Sadao checkpoint | Deportation cases |
If you live in Mueang Songkhla or Singhanakhon, call the Songkhla Port checkpoint on 074-313-480 before you travel into Hat Yai and ask which office will take your application. Everyone else in the province, Hat Yai included, files at 103 Phetkasem Road. The one other exception is Padang Besar subdistrict, which the 2012 announcement leaves to its own checkpoint (074-521-020); residents there should call it first.
Location and Getting There
Address: 103 Phetkasem Road, Tambon Hat Yai, Amphoe Hat Yai, Songkhla 90110.
In Thai: ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดสงขลา 103 ถนนเพชรเกษม ต.หาดใหญ่ อ.หาดใหญ่ จ.สงขลา 90110
Phetkasem Road (Highway 4) runs through Hat Yai. If you are taking a Grab or taxi, show the driver the Thai address above, and search the Thai name rather than "Hat Yai immigration", which can return the Division 6 headquarters or the airport checkpoint instead.
A phone number conflict to be aware of: an older Immigration Bureau directory on the Padang Besar checkpoint's website lists Songkhla Immigration as 074-301-010. The office's own website gives 074-257-019 on every page, and that is the number we list.
Opening Hours
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Monday-Friday | 08:30-16:30 (lunch break) |
| Saturday-Sunday | Closed |
| Thai public holidays | Closed |
These hours come from the citizen's guides published on the office's website. Those guides date from 2015, so if you are travelling in from outside Hat Yai, call 074-257-019 first to confirm.
Services and What to Bring
Extension of stay on a visa exemption or tourist visa
- Form TM.7 with one photo taken within the last six months
- Passport, plus copies of the photo page, latest entry stamp and current permission to stay
- 1,900 THB fee
- Your Thai address and the TM30 receipt if you have one
Immigration Division 1's published criteria: granted once, for no more than 30 days from the day your current permission ends. See the visa exemption extension guide.
Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria published by Immigration Division 1. Retirement: age 50 or over, and 65,000 THB monthly income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank for two months before filing and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. Marriage: a foreign husband of a Thai wife needs 40,000 THB a month or 400,000 THB held in a Thai bank for the past two months; Division 1 lists no income figure for a foreign wife of a Thai husband. Both spouses attend in person. Fee 1,900 THB. See the retirement extension guide.
90-day report (TM.47)
Free. File from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date; late filers report in person and pay a 2,000 THB fine, or 5,000 THB if caught (Immigration Bureau). Songkhla Immigration's own citizen's guide adds a useful detail: someone else can file your 90-day report for you, unless it is late, in which case you must come in person. Reports can also go by registered post at least 15 days before the due date, or online after your first in-person report. See our 90-day reporting guide.
Re-entry permit (TM.8)
1,000 THB single, 3,800 THB multiple. Leaving Thailand without one cancels your extension. See the re-entry permit guide.
TM30
The house owner, landlord or hotel must notify immigration within 24 hours of a foreigner moving in (Immigration Act, Section 38). See our TM30 guide.
Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, citizens of 60 countries and territories, including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, the US, UK, Australia, most of the EU and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism. The old 60-day scheme was repealed that day; anyone who entered before 15 September keeps the stay they were given. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days; Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are on Visa on Arrival. See visa exemption and our 30-day exemption explainer.
At this office you can extend a 30-day exempt stay once, by up to 30 days, for 1,900 THB. Immigration Division 1's criteria cap that extension at 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda, so confirm the length at the counter if that applies to you.
For longer stays you need a visa applied for online at thaievisa.go.th: a Non-Immigrant O, a DTV, or see our visa finder.
Malaysia Border Checkpoints near Hat Yai
Songkhla Immigration's unit list publishes these hours for the crossings in the province (Thai time; Malaysia is one hour ahead). The list is not dated, and border hours change, so confirm a crossing is open before you travel.
| Crossing | Thai side | Malaysian side | Published Thai hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sadao | Tambon Samnak Kham, Sadao | Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah | 05:00-23:00 |
| Padang Besar | Tambon Padang Besar, Sadao | Padang Besar, Perlis | 05:00-21:00 |
| Ban Prakop | Tambon Ban Prakop, Na Thawi | Kota Putra, Padang Terap, Kedah | 07:00-17:00 |
Padang Besar also has its own checkpoint website, which gives its phone as 074-521-020. Route details, transport and costs are in our Malaysia visa run guide.
Since 15 September 2026, entries on the 30-day exemption through land borders are capped at twice per calendar year. Malaysian, Bruneian, Indonesian and Singaporean nationals are exempt from that cap. Everyone else should count their land entries before planning a Sadao or Padang Besar run. Officers can also ask for 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family in funds and an onward ticket within your stay.
Practical Notes
- Online queue booking: the Immigration Bureau's Division 6 online appointment page has a booking calendar for "Songkhla Immigration". Book there before you go.
- Two Hat Yai addresses: Division 6 HQ at Thung Tam Sao (074-250-801 to 802) is the regional command. Your paperwork goes to 103 Phetkasem Road.
- Payment: the office does not publish accepted payment methods. Bring the exact fee in baht.
- Overstay: if you are already over, read overstay penalties first. The province's immigration detention unit is at the Sadao checkpoint.
