The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Fukuoka is a full career consulate, not an honorary office, and it issues Thai visas for residents of 13 prefectures: all of Kyushu, the Chugoku region and Okinawa. That includes Hiroshima, Okayama and Naha, which many people assume fall under Osaka or Tokyo.
It opened in 2018, Thailand's third mission in Japan after the Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate-General in Osaka, and now sits on the 2nd floor of the Dai Ichi Myojo Building in Tenjin. Since 1 January 2025 it accepts visa applications only through the Thai e-Visa portal, and it states a processing time of within 15 business days.

Shikoku is not Fukuoka's. Ehime and Kagawa face Hiroshima and Okayama across the Inland Sea, but Shikoku belongs to Osaka.
About 5,000 Thai nationals live in the district, roughly 8% of Thais in Japan, according to the consulate.
Do You Need a Visa?
Japanese citizens: no, for tourism of up to 30 days. Japan is on Thailand's 30-day exemption list, which replaced the 60-day scheme on 15 September 2026.
- Extend once by up to 30 days at a Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB, about 60 days in total (visa exemption extension).
- The exemption covers tourism. Business trips and work need a visa.
- Land-border entries on the exemption are limited to two per calendar year.
- Funds of 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family may be checked.
- File the Thailand Digital Arrival Card at tdac.immigration.go.th within three days before arrival.

You need the consulate for a Tourist Visa (60 days per entry), work and business (Non-Immigrant B), study (ED), retirement (O-A), family stays, the DTV, SMART and LTR visas.
How to Apply
The consulate's e-Visa announcement: from 1 January 2025 at 10:00 JST, any non-Thai national in Kyushu, Okinawa or Chugoku who wants a Thai visa must apply at www.thaievisa.go.th. Applications are no longer accepted in person.
- Register on thaievisa.go.th and choose your visa type; select the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Fukuoka.
- Upload the documents for your category. The consulate links the Embassy in Tokyo's guide to required documents (updated 10 January 2025):
- Proof of where you live: My Number Card or driver's licence for Japanese citizens; My Number Card or residence card for foreign residents
- An e-ticket or fully paid airline ticket
- For long-stay O-A and O-X visas: My Number Card and koseki tohon (Japanese), or residence card and juminhyo (foreigners)
- Pay by Visa or Mastercard only in the portal. The review starts once payment is complete, and the fee is non-refundable.
- Expect a decision within 15 business days.
- Print the confirmation email for the airline and Thai immigration.

DTV since 31 August 2026: all Thai missions now require proof of permanent residence in the country where you apply and a criminal record certificate from your country of nationality or permanent residence. For a foreign resident of Fukuoka, that means permanent residence in Japan.

Counter hours vary by page. The consulate's main contact block gives office hours of 09:00–12:00 and 13:30–17:30. Its holidays page gives shorter service hours of 09:30–11:30 and 13:30–15:00. For legalisation or Thai-citizen services, go in the morning.

Come by train, not car. The building has no parking; the consulate points visitors to commercial car parks nearby.
