The Royal Thai Embassy in Doha is Thailand's embassy in Qatar. It handles Thai visas for people living in Qatar, most of whom are foreign residents holding a Qatar ID (QID). Visa applications are online only; the embassy's counter now deals with Thai passports and document legalisation.
Qatari citizens do not need a visa for a short holiday. Since 15 September 2026 they get 30 days visa-free. The embassy updated its own visa-exemption page on 16 September 2026 with the new lists, which makes it one of the more current Thai mission pages in the Gulf.

Which Areas This Mission Covers
The embassy covers Qatar. Its tourist-visa requirements ask for a "document indicating current location (Valid Residency Permit Card/QID)", so the practical rule is that you apply here if you live in Qatar and can upload a valid QID or residence permit. If you are only passing through Doha, apply from your country of residence.
The nearest other Thai missions in the Gulf are the Riyadh embassy, the Kuwait embassy and the two UAE missions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Each takes applications only from its own residents.
Do You Need a Visa?
Qatari passport holders are on the 30-day exemption list effective 15 September 2026, which the Doha embassy published on its exemption page. You may stay up to 30 days for tourism, and extend once by up to 30 days at a Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB (extension guide).
The embassy lists the conditions:
- Exemptions do not apply to holders of a Travel Document for Aliens issued by an exempt country.
- Entry through land or sea checkpoints on the exemption is allowed only twice in a calendar year (Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore excepted).
- You must carry cash of or equivalent to 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.
- Any extension must be applied for before your permitted stay ends.
The same page lists visa on arrival for three nationalities only: Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia (15 days, 2,000 THB, no extension except for illness). Bilateral agreements still give 90 days to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Korea and Peru.
File the Thailand Digital Arrival Card at tdac.immigration.go.th within three days before arrival. More: visa exemption, the 30-day change.
Residents with other passports follow their own nationality's rules. Check yours with the visa finder. The embassy also has a separate page for Nigerian nationals and one for "specified passports"; those applications need Ministry of Foreign Affairs approval, which the embassy says may take 4–6 weeks.
You need the embassy for a Tourist Visa, a Transit Visa, a Non-Immigrant visa for business or work, family or retirement, or the DTV.
How to Apply
- Create an account at thaievisa.go.th and choose the Royal Thai Embassy, Doha.
- Upload the tourist-visa documents the embassy lists:
- Passport or travel document biodata page, valid for more than six months on the travel date
- Photo taken within the last six months
- Valid residence permit card or QID
- Round-trip ticket booking
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or an invitation letter from family or friends in Thailand)
- Pay the fee online. It is not refundable.
- Allow up to 10 working days, or up to 14 if the embassy has to ask for more documents.

The embassy does not list a DTV fee on its site. The portal shows the amount before payment.
Practical Notes
Proof of funds for non-exempt visitors. On arrival, tourist-visa holders must be able to show about 20,000 THB (the embassy says roughly 3,000 QAR) per person or 40,000 THB (about 5,000 QAR) per family. For transit visas it is 10,000 THB per person.
Counter services. Passports and legalisation run Sunday to Thursday, 08:00–11:00 and 14:00–15:00. The embassy also attests employment contracts for Thai workers in Qatar.
Hours change in Ramadan. The embassy posts separate Ramadan hours and a 2026 holiday notice on its site each year. Check both before you visit.
DTV applicants. A Ministry of Foreign Affairs rule effective 31 August 2026 requires proof of permanent residence (instead of proof of current location) and a criminal record clearance certificate. A QID for a work visa may not count as permanent residence, so email [email protected] before paying.
