The Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta is the only Thai career mission in Indonesia, so every Thai visa application made from anywhere in the country, Bali and Sumatra included, is handled here. Since 26 November 2024 you apply online, and the embassy states one processing time for every visa type: 10 working days, not counting the day you submit.
Two things catch people out. First, Indonesians rarely need this embassy at all: from 15 September 2026 they get 30 days visa-free, and they are one of only four nationalities exempt from the new cap on land-border entries. Second, the foreigners who live in Bali and plan to get a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) here. The Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane has announced that from 31 August 2026 DTV applicants worldwide must be nationals or permanent residents of the country they apply in, and the Manila and London embassies' DTV checklists now ask for proof of permanent residence. Jakarta has not posted the rule itself, but a tourist stay in Indonesia is unlikely to qualify.

Which Areas This Mission Covers
All of Indonesia. The embassy's e-Visa notice says "a foreign national who is currently in Indonesia and wishes to apply for a Thai visa must apply" through the online platform, and it names no other Thai office for visas.
Thailand also has honorary consulates in Denpasar (Bali), Medan and Surabaya. They are listed on the embassy's site, but they are honorary offices, not part of the e-Visa process. If you are in Bali, you still apply online and select the embassy in Jakarta.
Do You Need a Visa?
Indonesian citizens are on Thailand's 30-day visa-exemption list from 15 September 2026. You can extend once by up to 30 days at a Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB (form TM.7), which gives about 60 days in total. The exemption is for tourism. Immigration can ask to see 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family) and an onward ticket inside your 30 days, and you must file the TDAC arrival card within three days before arrival.
The land-border rule matters for Indonesians travelling overland through Malaysia. Most exempt nationalities are now limited to two exemption entries by land per calendar year, but Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore are excluded from that cap. Anyone who entered before 15 September 2026 keeps the stay they were granted.
You need the embassy for:
- A Tourist Visa, which the embassy describes as a stay of up to 60 days
- Non-Immigrant visas for business or work, study, family or long-stay retirement
- The DTV, if you are Indonesian or an Indonesian permanent resident
- Legalisation of documents between Indonesia and Thailand
How to Apply
- Be in Indonesia when you submit. The rule is about where you are, and you select the Royal Thai Embassy, Jakarta on the portal.
- Create an account at thaievisa.go.th and pick your visa category. The embassy's tourist, DTV and Non-Immigrant pages each link to the matching page on the portal for the document list.
- Check every field before you submit. Once an application is in, the embassy says personal details cannot be changed, and any error, including a typo, leads to rejection.
- Pay in the portal.
- Wait 10 working days. The approval arrives by email. Print it and show it to the airline at departure and to Thai immigration on arrival.
The embassy can ask for more documents or an interview, or refuse a visa, without giving a reason.
Practical Notes
Fees. The newest fee table on the embassy's site is the "Announcement on the Revised Rates of Consular Service Fees", effective 15 July 2024, which appears on its Important Information on Visa Application page. It lists a tourist visa at IDR 560,000 (single entry) or IDR 2,800,000 (multiple entries), a Non-Immigrant visa at IDR 1,120,000 (single) or IDR 2,800,000 (multiple, 1 year), the DTV at IDR 5,600,000, the LTR at IDR 28,000,000 and a transit visa at IDR 490,000. The site also still carries an older 16 August 2022 announcement, and its DTV page is a July 2024 graphic quoting 10,000 THB. All of these predate the e-Visa system, so treat the figure the portal shows at checkout as the real fee.
DTV applicants in Bali. The Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane says new DTV requirements "will take effect worldwide from 31 August 2026": nationality or permanent residence in the country of application, plus a criminal record certificate from your country of nationality or the country where you apply. Manila's and London's DTV checklists now ask for proof of permanent residence as well. Jakarta's own DTV page has not been updated to say any of this. Its O-A page accepts either a KITAS (temporary stay permit) or a KITAP (permanent stay permit), but it has said nothing about which permits count for the DTV. If you hold a KITAS rather than a KITAP, email [email protected] before you pay.
"Additional Requirements for Non-Indonesian Applicants." The embassy's menu has a page with this title, but it was blank when we checked on 16 September 2026. Follow the checklist for your category on the e-Visa portal.
Legalisation. Indonesian documents need stamps from a notary (where required), the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia before the embassy will legalise them. The fee is Rp 210,000 per document and it takes at least 5 working days. Documents in Indonesian should be translated into English, not Thai, because the embassy says there are no sworn translators in Indonesia qualified to translate into Thai. The embassy also legalises documents between Thailand and Serbia or Croatia.

Do Indonesians need a visa for Thailand?

Probably not, unless they are an Indonesian national or an Indonesian permanent resident. The Jakarta embassy has not posted it, so email [email protected] before paying. A tourist or short-stay visitor in Bali should expect to be refused.
