The Royal Thai Embassy in Vienna handles Thai visas for residents of Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia. If you live in Bratislava or Ljubljana, this is your embassy. The Thai offices in those two cities are honorary consulates-general, and visa files for all three countries are processed by Vienna.
The mistake the embassy calls out by name is the O-X visa. Austrian, Slovak and Slovenian nationals are not eligible for the O-X long-stay visa, and the embassy asks applicants not to select it. Choose it anyway and you lose a non-refundable fee.

The embassy's e-Visa page states: "Residents of Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia (currently residing in these countries) may apply for e-visa."

You must be in the country when you apply. The embassy says nationals of Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia who are in Thailand or living outside their home countries cannot apply through Vienna and must first return.
Honorary consulates. The embassy lists honorary consulates-general in Bratislava and Ljubljana and honorary consulates in Salzburg and Innsbruck (a Dornbirn office is listed as temporarily closed). We don't publish their contact details. Visa applications are made online and processed by the embassy in Vienna.
Do You Need a Visa?
Austrian, Slovak and Slovenian passport holders are all in the 30-day visa exemption tier that took effect on 15 September 2026. For a holiday you receive up to 30 days on arrival, for tourism only.
- One extension of up to 30 days is available at any Thai immigration office for 1,900 THB, which takes you to about 60 days. See the visa exemption extension guide.
- Land-border entries on the exemption are capped at two per calendar year.
- If you entered before 15 September 2026, you keep the stay you were given.

You need the Vienna embassy for:
- Stays beyond 30 days plus one 30-day extension
- A tourist visa or special tourist visa (STV)
- A Non-Immigrant O visa for family, a B visa for business or work, or an ED visa for study
- The Non-Immigrant O-A retirement visa
- The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) or the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa
- Legalisation of Austrian, Slovak or Slovene documents
How to Apply
The embassy says all visa applications must be submitted online, and in-person and postal applications are not accepted. Our e-Visa guide walks through the portal.
- Create an account at thaievisa.go.th. The embassy notes that each account can submit a maximum of 10 applications at a time.
- Apply at least a month, and no more than three months, before travel, as the embassy recommends. It warns that applications by certain nationals can take up to three months and that it cannot accommodate urgent requests.
- Pick the right visa type and check every field. The embassy says a submitted application cannot be amended, and there is no refund for choosing the wrong visa type. Do not choose O-X if you hold an Austrian, Slovak or Slovenian passport.
- Pay online by Visa or Mastercard, debit or credit. The embassy says the fee cannot be refunded once paid and your card provider may add charges.
- Wait for the decision, usually 3 to 10 working days depending on your documents, visa type and nationality.

The e-Visa page does not list a DTV fee in euros. The embassy's DTV page only reproduces the Foreign Ministry's July 2024 DTV infographic, which states the fee as 10,000 THB. The portal shows the amount you will pay before you pay it; email the visa section if you need it confirmed in advance.
Practical Notes
Everything is by appointment. The consular section opens mornings only and the embassy states "ALL SERVICES BY APPOINTMENT ONLY." Legalisation slots are booked through the embassy's online appointment system linked from its contact page.
Legalisation. The embassy accepts only documents already legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Slovakia or Slovenia. The fee is EUR 15 per stamp of that ministry, plus EUR 15 per Thai translation if needed, cash only and non-refundable. You can submit in person by appointment or by registered mail to the consular section (legalisation). Documents come back in the envelope you provide within 5 working days of receiving a complete file.
