Mukdahan Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดมุกดาหาร) handles extensions, 90-day reports, re-entry permits and TM30 for foreigners living in Mukdahan province, and staffs the Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge to Savannakhet. That bridge is why most people look this office up. Two things have changed for anyone planning a run across it. Since 15 September 2026, visa-exempt entries by land are capped at two per calendar year. And since 31 August 2026, the Thai consulate in Savannakhet only takes DTV applications from Lao nationals and permanent residents of Laos.

The Office and the Crossings
The office's contact page gives one address for the provincial office, in Bang Sai Yai subdistrict of Mueang Mukdahan, and separate phone numbers for each unit. Call the foreigner-services number, 042-674-072, for extensions and 90-day reports; the bridge number is for the checkpoint.

Neighbouring provinces have their own offices: Nakhon Phanom Immigration to the north and Ubon Ratchathani Immigration to the south. If you live in one of them, you file there, not in Mukdahan.
Services and What to Bring
Extension of a visa-exempt or tourist stay
The Immigration Bureau's published documents:
- Form TM.7, filed by you in person
- Copies of your passport photo page, visa (if any) and latest entry stamp
- One photo, 4 x 6 cm, taken within the last six months
- 1,900 THB fee
The Bureau caps this extension at 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda; others can get up to 30. See visa exemption extension. An extension does not use one of your two land entries, so it is often the better choice than crossing the bridge.
Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria, fee 1,900 THB. Retirement: age 50 or over, with 65,000 THB a month in income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank held for two months before applying and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. Marriage to a Thai national: 40,000 THB a month in income, or 400,000 THB in a Thai bank for the previous two months, with both spouses attending. See the retirement extension guide.
90-day report, re-entry permit, TM30
- 90-day report (TM.47): free. File from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date, or pay a 2,000 THB fine in person. The first report after arrival is made in person, through someone you authorise, or by registered post; later ones can go online at tm47.immigration.go.th. See 90-day reporting.

The Friendship Bridge 2 Border Run
The Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge links Mukdahan with Kaysone Phomvihane (Savannakhet) across the Mekong. The Immigration Bureau lists the crossing as open every day from 06:00 to 22:00.
The rules when you come back in:
- Two land entries a year. Since 15 September 2026, entries on the 30-day exemption through any land border count toward a cap of two per calendar year. Nationals of Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore are excepted. A same-day hop to Savannakhet uses one.
- Repeat runners can be refused. On 12 November 2025 the Immigration Bureau told all checkpoints to consider refusing entry to people who repeat visa runs "more than 2 rounds without a reason they can explain", and to send them to the visa that fits their real purpose.
- Entry conditions. The officer can ask for 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family) and an onward ticket within your 30 days. File your TDAC at tdac.immigration.go.th within 3 days before arrival.
Getting a Thai visa in Savannakhet. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet covers six southern Lao provinces. It takes applications online only, at thaievisa.go.th, from people staying in those provinces, collects the fee in cash in baht between 09:00 and 11:00 on weekdays, and quotes about 5 to 10 working days. Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism, replacing the 60-day scheme. Anyone who entered before 15 September keeps the stay they were given. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days; Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are the only nationalities left on Visa on Arrival. A single stay longer than about 60 days (30 days plus one 30-day extension) needs a visa: a Non-Immigrant O for retirement or a Thai family, the DTV from your home country, or whatever the visa finder suggests.
Practical Notes
- Book online. The Immigration Bureau's Division 4 appointment page has a booking calendar for "Mukdahan Immigration".
- Use the right number. 042-674-072 is foreigner services; 042-674-043 is the bridge. The office also lists 042-674-041 for its detention room.
- LINE and Facebook. The office posted about its LINE official account in May 2026, and its contact page links the Facebook page immmukdahan. Check there for holiday closures.
- Extensions after border runs get scrutiny. The same November 2025 order told provincial offices covering inland areas to refuse, or later revoke, extensions for people with a visa-run pattern. If it has already gone wrong, read overstay penalties.
