Trat Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดตราด) serves foreigners living in Trat province, including Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Mak. Its head office is not in Trat town. It is in Khlong Yai, near the Cambodian border in the far south of the province, a long drive from Koh Chang. For most island residents the office that matters is its extension service point in Laem Ngop, on the mainland opposite the island, which handles extensions, change of visa type, 90-day reports, TM30 and re-entry permits. And if you were hoping to reset your stamp at Hat Lek: the Thai-Cambodian land border has been closed since July 2025, and it was still closed when we checked on 27 September 2026.

The Immigration Bureau's own hours list names the two main sites as "Trat Immigration (Khlong Yai)" and "Trat Immigration (Laem Ngop)", both Monday-Friday, 08:30-16:30.
Koh Chang residents. Do your 90-day report at the island service point. For an extension, go to Laem Ngop on the mainland; the island counter's published remit covers 90-day reports and residence notification only, and it has one officer. The office's June 2026 report does record staff from the Koh Chang service point handling extension applicants, so if you want to try the island first, ask there. The Laem Ngop point is the one the office lists for extensions.
Trat town and the south. Laem Ngop is closer to Trat town than Khlong Yai is. Khlong Yai is the head office and the choice if you live near the border.

Services and What to Bring
Extension of a visa-exempt or tourist stay
The Immigration Bureau's published documents:
- Form TM.7, filed by you in person
- Copies of your passport photo page, visa (if any) and latest entry stamp
- One photo, 4 x 6 cm, taken within the last six months
- 1,900 THB fee
The Bureau caps this extension at 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda; others can get up to 30. With the Cambodian border shut, this is the realistic way to add time without flying out. See visa exemption extension.
Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria, fee 1,900 THB. Retirement: age 50 or over, with 65,000 THB a month in income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank held for two months before applying and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. Marriage to a Thai national: 40,000 THB a month in income, or 400,000 THB held in a Thai bank for the previous two months, with both spouses attending. See the retirement extension guide.
90-day report, re-entry permit, TM30
- 90-day report (TM.47): free. File from 15 days before to 7 days after your due date, or pay a 2,000 THB fine in person. Make the first report at a service point, through someone you authorise, or by registered post. Later reports can go online at tm47.immigration.go.th, which the office links from its services page. - Re-entry permit (TM.8): 1,000 THB single, 3,800 THB multiple, at Khlong Yai or Laem Ngop. Leaving without one cancels your extension. See the re-entry permit guide.

Hat Lek and the Cambodia Border
Trat Immigration also runs the Ban Hat Lek permanent crossing to Cham Yeam and Koh Kong. It is not a visa-run option. On 7 June 2025 the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command cut Hat Lek's hours from 06:00-22:00 to 08:00-16:00, as Division 3 posted at the time, and from July 2025 the government closed all Thai-Cambodian checkpoints. The Royal Thai Navy, which controls the Trat and Chanthaburi checkpoints, said in June 2026 that they were fully closed. Trat Immigration's own 2026 reports show Hat Lek being used for deportations of Cambodian nationals and for handovers of Thai nationals sent back from Cambodia, not for travellers.

Alternatives: extend at Laem Ngop, fly out, or use a Lao or Malaysian crossing, bearing in mind that visa-exempt entries by land are capped at two per calendar year since 15 September 2026. Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism, replacing the 60-day scheme. Anyone who entered before 15 September keeps the stay they were given. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days; Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are the only nationalities left on Visa on Arrival. At the border the officer can ask for 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family) and an onward ticket. Details: visa exemption and our 30-day exemption explainer.
For a season on Koh Chang longer than about 60 days you need a visa: the DTV for remote workers, applied for from your home country, or a Non-Immigrant O for retirees. The visa finder will narrow it down.
Practical Notes
- No online queue. Trat's own booking page links the Immigration Bureau calendars for Bangkok, Ayutthaya and Divisions 4, 5 and 6, and none for Trat. Arrive early, especially in high season.
- Check the ferry times. A Koh Chang to Laem Ngop round trip plus the counter can fill most of a day. Aim to reach Laem Ngop in the morning.
- Call the right number. Khlong Yai 039-510-242, Laem Ngop 039-510-840. The office website gives no separate phone for the Koh Chang counter.
- Enforcement on the islands. The office's news pages record joint sweeps on Koh Chang with local police and tourist police to check foreigners' status. Carry a copy of your passport and latest extension.
- Overstayed? Read overstay penalties. With the Cambodian border closed, you will be leaving by air or via another border.

Is there an immigration office on Koh Chang?
There is a Trat Immigration service point at 18/35 Moo 4, Koh Chang subdistrict, open Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30. Its published remit is 90-day reports and residence notification. For extensions, the office lists its Laem Ngop service point on the mainland.
Where do Koh Chang residents extend their visa?
At the Laem Ngop extension service point, 181 Moo 1, Tambon Laem Ngop, phone 039-510-840, Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30. It handles extensions, change of visa type, TM30, 90-day reports and re-entry permits.
Where is the Trat immigration head office?
At 25 Moo 9, Tambon Khlong Yai, Khlong Yai district, Trat 23110, phone 039-510-242. It is in the far south of the province, near the Cambodian border.
Can I do a visa run at Hat Lek?
No. The Thai-Cambodian land border has been closed to travellers since July 2025, and the Navy said in June 2026 that the Trat checkpoints, including Ban Hat Lek, were fully closed. We found no reopening as of 27 September 2026.
Can I extend my visa exemption in Trat?
Yes, once, by up to 30 days, for 1,900 THB with form TM.7 and one photo, at Laem Ngop or Khlong Yai. Nationals on the Bureau's 7-day list, including India, should confirm the length first.
Can I book an appointment at Trat immigration?
No online booking calendar exists for Trat. Its website's booking page only links other divisions' calendars. Contact the office on LINE (laemngobimm) or by phone.
