Udon Thani Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดอุดรธานี) handles extensions, 90-day reports, re-entry permits and TM30 for foreigners living anywhere in Udon Thani province, retirees and people married to Thais included. The thing people get wrong is the address. On 7 July 2025 the office left Pho Si Road in the city and moved into a five-storey building on the site of the former Ban Na Sai school, at 345 Moo 6, Tambon Ban Lueam. Plenty of listings still show Pho Si Road, including the Immigration Bureau's own contact spreadsheet. Go to Ban Lueam.

The districts are Mueang Udon Thani, Kut Chap, Nong Wua So, Kumphawapi, Non Sa-at, Nong Han, Thung Fon, Chai Wan, Si That, Wang Sam Mo, Ban Dung, Ban Phue, Nam Som, Phen, Sang Khom, Nong Saeng, Na Yung, Phibun Rak, Ku Kaeo and Prachak Sinlapakhom.

Getting There

The Google Maps link on the office's contact page puts the new building on the north-western side of Udon Thani city, in Ban Lueam subdistrict. If you are using a saved pin or an old guide that shows Pho Si Road in Mak Khaeng, it is the pre-July 2025 site. Use the map link from the official contact page or search for the office's Thai name. Plan on a car or taxi.

Services and What to Bring

Extension of a visa-exempt or tourist stay

The Immigration Bureau's published documents:

  • Form TM.7, filed by you in person
  • Copies of your passport photo page, visa (if any) and latest entry stamp
  • One photo, 4 x 6 cm, taken within the last six months
  • 1,900 THB fee

The Bureau's criteria page, which is undated, caps this extension at 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda; others can get up to 30 days. If you hold one of those passports, confirm the length at the counter before you plan around it. See our visa exemption extension guide.

Retirement extension

National criteria, fee 1,900 THB: age 50 or over, and either income of at least 65,000 THB a month, or at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank for two months before applying and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. Bring TM.7, a passport copy, proof of income and/or a Thai bank letter with a copy of the bank book. O-A holders also need health insurance of at least USD 100,000 or 3,000,000 THB. Full details: retirement extension guide.

Marriage extension

For a foreign husband of a Thai wife: average income of 40,000 THB a month, or 400,000 THB in a Thai bank held for the previous two months. Both spouses must attend in person with the original documents.

Expect a home visit. The office's own activity log for June 2026 lists six fact-check visits by its foreigner-services team, concerning foreigners aged 63 to 84 from Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Malaysia and Hong Kong. In one, dated 25 June 2026, officers visited a British retiree after his retirement extension was granted and confirmed he really lived at the address on his application. Keep that address current and be reachable.

90-day report (TM.47)

Free. You can report from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date; after that you report in person with a 2,000 THB fine. Your first report is made in person at the office for the area where you live; later ones can go through tm47.immigration.go.th, which the office links. See the 90-day reporting guide.

Re-entry permit (TM.8)

1,000 THB single, 3,800 THB multiple. Leaving without one cancels your extension. See the re-entry permit guide.

TM30

Your landlord, house owner or hotel files TM30 when you move in. The office website links the online TM30 system. See the TM30 guide.

Do You Need a Visa?

Since 15 September 2026, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism, replacing the 60-day scheme. Anyone who entered before 15 September keeps the stay they were given. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days; Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are the only nationalities left on Visa on Arrival. The officer can ask for 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family) and an onward ticket within your stay. Details: visa exemption and our 30-day exemption explainer.

You can extend a 30-day exempt stay here once, by up to 30 days, for 1,900 THB, which gives about 60 days in total. Living here with a Thai spouse or in retirement needs a Non-Immigrant O visa, applied for at thaievisa.go.th from outside Thailand. The nearest Thai mission is the embassy in Vientiane, across the river from Nong Khai; check its rules on who it accepts before relying on it. See the Thai Embassy in Vientiane and our Laos visa run guide. Not sure which visa? Use the visa finder.

Practical Notes

  • Book a queue slot. The office website links an online booking calendar ("Udonthani Immigration"), which is also listed on the Immigration Bureau's Division 4 appointment page.
  • Online extension portal. The website also links the Bureau's e-Extension system at thaiextension.vfsevisa.com (run by VFS Global). Eligibility is limited; check before skipping the trip.
  • Contact channels on the website: Facebook (immudonthani) and LINE (@301ltmdi), where closures and notices are posted.
  • The office also staffs Udon Thani International Airport. Its logs record checks on international departures there.
  • Visa-run patterns get scrutiny. In November 2025 the Immigration Bureau told provincial offices to tighten extensions for foreigners whose passports show repeated in-out exemption entries (back-to-back Nong Khai border runs, for example), including refusing the extension or revoking it after approval.
  • Overstayed? See overstay penalties first.
