Khon Kaen Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดขอนแก่น) is where foreigners living anywhere in Khon Kaen province extend their stay, file 90-day reports and get re-entry permits. What trips people up is the address. The office has moved twice since 2018, and map apps, forum posts and even some of its own older pages still show one of the previous sites: the police training centre in Nai Mueang or the second floor of Bus Terminal 3. The office now works from its own building at 197 Mittraphap Road, Tambon Non Thon, on land it was granted for a permanent home; Immigration Division 4 reports its formal opening ceremony on 16 October 2024. The footer on every page of the office's website gives the address as Moo 13 (see the note below on Moo 3).

Which Areas This Office Covers
Khon Kaen province, and only Khon Kaen province. When the office was set up on 7 September 2009 it covered three provinces: Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum and Maha Sarakham. A 2016 royal decree created separate immigration offices for Chaiyaphum and Maha Sarakham, and Khon Kaen's area shrank to its own province.
So if you live in Maha Sarakham or Chaiyaphum and an older guide tells you to come to Khon Kaen, it is wrong: file with the immigration office of your own province. If you live in Nakhon Ratchasima, see Korat Immigration.

The office sits on Mittraphap Road (Highway 2) north of the city centre. The pin on the Google Map embedded in the office's own website is at roughly 16.588, 102.817. Use that rather than searching the name, because older pins for the previous sites still turn up.

The office's history page explains the moves. In October 2018 the training centre needed its building back, so the office took temporary space at the new bus terminal with the help of the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, while the Treasury Department granted it 6.5 rai of land in Non Thon for a permanent building. Immigration Division 4 reports the opening ceremony for that building, in Non Thon, on 16 October 2024. One block on the office's history page still prints the bus terminal address; the site footer, contact page and map give Non Thon.
Moo 3 or Moo 13? The office's own website gives both: the contact page body prints "หมู่ 3" (Moo 3), while the footer on every page, including that one, says "หมู่ 13". The Immigration Bureau's unit list is no help, since it still shows the old police training centre. We use Moo 13, the version the office repeats on every page, but call 043-306-642 to confirm if you need the exact address for a form. For getting there, the road and subdistrict (Mittraphap, Non Thon) and the map pin are what matter.
Services and What to Bring
The office's foreigner services section (งานบริการคนต่างด้าว) publishes monthly service statistics, and its extension of stay desk has its own phone line. Its news pages also carry a steady run of overstay and illegal-work arrests in the province, which is one more reason not to let your own permission lapse. Bring the following for the common services.
Extension of stay on a visa exemption or tourist visa
- Form TM.7 with one photo taken within the last six months
- Passport, plus copies of the photo page, latest entry stamp and current permission to stay
- 1,900 THB fee
- Your Thai address and, ideally, the TM30 receipt your landlord or hotel filed

Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria from Immigration Division 1. Retirement: age 50 or over, with 65,000 THB monthly income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank for two months before filing and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. Marriage: a foreign husband of a Thai wife needs 40,000 THB a month or 400,000 THB held in a Thai bank for the past two months; Division 1 lists no income figure for a foreign wife of a Thai husband. 90-day report (TM.47)
Free. File from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date. Late filers must report in person and pay a 2,000 THB fine; if you are caught without reporting, the fine is 5,000 THB (Immigration Bureau). The report can also be sent by registered post at least 15 days before the due date, or filed online after your first in-person report. See our 90-day reporting guide.

TM30
The house owner, landlord or hotel must notify immigration within 24 hours of a foreigner moving in (Immigration Act, Section 38). In a house you rent from a Thai family, that is usually the owner's job, but you are the one who gets asked about it at the counter. See our TM30 guide.
Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, citizens of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of the EU and India, enter Thailand visa-free for 30 days for tourism. The old 60-day scheme was repealed that day, although anyone who entered before 15 September keeps the stay they were stamped with. At Khon Kaen you can extend that 30-day stay once, by up to 30 days, for 1,900 THB. Immigration Division 1's criteria cap the extension at 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda, so check at the counter if that applies to you.

Border Runs from Khon Kaen
Khon Kaen has no international land border of its own. The nearest crossing into Laos is the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge at Nong Khai, covered in our Laos visa run guide. Two rules apply at every land crossing since 15 September 2026. Entries on the 30-day exemption over land are capped at twice per calendar year (Malaysian, Bruneian, Indonesian and Singaporean nationals are exempt). And officers may ask for 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family in funds, plus an onward ticket within your stay. Confirm the crossing is open before you travel.
Practical Notes
- Hours are not published on the office website. Call 043-306-642 (the extension section) or message the LINE account @xan4806o before a first visit.
- Use the official LINE account for questions. The office publishes the QR code and ID on its homepage; do not use LINE IDs from agents or groups.
- Forms (TM.7, TM.8, TM.47) are on the office website's download page, so you can fill them in at home.
- Bring cash and copies. The office does not publish its payment methods, so bring the exact fee in baht and signed copies of every passport page you are relying on.
- Public holidays: Thai government offices close on public holidays, including the Songkran break. Do not leave an extension to the last working day before one.
