Tak Provincial Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดตาก) is based in Mae Sot, not in Tak town. It handles visa extensions, 90-day reports, re-entry permits and TM30 for foreigners living anywhere in Tak province, and it also staffs the two Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge checkpoints on the Moei River. If you live in Mueang Tak, the provincial capital, you still come to Mae Sot: the Immigration Bureau's booking page has one entry for Tak and no separate branch. The Myanmar crossing is a different matter. We could not confirm that foreign passport holders can currently use it, so check before you go.

Which Areas This Office Covers
The office's area-of-responsibility page lists all nine districts of Tak: Mueang Tak, Ban Tak, Sam Ngao, Mae Ramat, Tha Song Yang, Mae Sot, Phop Phra, Umphang and Wang Chao. Five of them border Myanmar, along roughly 533 km.

From the provincial capital that means a long road trip west over the hills, so book a slot before you set out. The neighbouring provinces have their own offices, each with its own Division 5 booking calendar: Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Mae Hong Son (plus a Mae Sariang checkpoint), and Chiang Mai.
Getting There
The office and the First Friendship Bridge checkpoint are both in Tha Sai Luat, the subdistrict on the Moei River west of Mae Sot town. The office's contact page gives the First Bridge checkpoint as Highway 105, Tha Sai Luat, and the Second Bridge checkpoint as Moo 7, Ban Wang Takhian, Tha Sai Luat. The office's 2026 service charter says its foreigner services section is on the second floor of a building it calls the Terminal. Ask at the gate if you are not sure which building to enter.
Services and What to Bring
The office's service charter for 2026 publishes the same fees as the Immigration Bureau: 1,900 THB for an extension of stay and 1,000 or 3,800 THB for a re-entry permit.
Extension of a visa-exempt or tourist stay

The Bureau's criteria limit this extension to 7 days for nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda. Everyone else can get up to 30 days. See the visa exemption extension guide.
Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria, fee 1,900 THB:
- Retirement: age 50 or over, with 65,000 THB a month in income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank held for two months before applying and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination. See the retirement extension guide.
- Marriage to a Thai national: average income of 40,000 THB a month, or 400,000 THB in a Thai bank held for the previous two months.
90-day report (TM.47)
Free. The window runs from 15 days before to 7 days after your due date; late reports are made in person with a 2,000 THB fine. The first report can't be filed online: go in person, send someone you authorise, or use registered post. After that, use tm47.immigration.go.th. The Tak charter commits to handling an in-person 90-day report in about four minutes. More in the 90-day reporting guide.
Re-entry permit (TM.8) and TM30
A re-entry permit costs 1,000 THB single or 3,800 THB multiple; leaving without one cancels an extension (re-entry permit guide). Landlords and hotels report foreign guests on TM30 (TM30 guide).
Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days, and only Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia remain on Visa on Arrival. The officer can ask for 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family), and you file the TDAC at tdac.immigration.go.th within 3 days before arrival. Two rules matter more in Mae Sot than elsewhere. Exempt entries by land are capped at two per calendar year (Malaysian, Bruneian, Indonesian and Singaporean nationals excepted). And Myanmar nationals get a 14-day exemption only when arriving by air, so it does not apply at the Friendship Bridge.
For longer stays you need a visa. Since 31 August 2026 the DTV can only be applied for where you are a national or permanent resident. Retirees need a Non-Immigrant O. The visa finder will narrow it down.
The Mae Sot-Myawaddy Crossing: Check Before You Go
The Immigration Bureau's office-hours list gives the Friendship Bridge checkpoint as open daily, 06:30-18:30. That list does not tell you whether foreign tourists can cross into Myawaddy today, and we found no official Thai notice that says they can. The Tak office's own 2026 news is dominated by security work: it repeatedly records receiving foreigners sent back from Myanmar under National Security Council resolutions, taking their biometrics and adding them to a watchlist, and it attends the Anti Cyber Scam Centre's border-control meetings. What this means in practice:
- Do not plan a visa run here without calling the office on 055-508-861 first.
- Any exempt land entry here uses one of your two a year.
- The Thai-Cambodia land border has been closed since July 2025, so there is no Cambodian fallback. The nearest dependable land alternatives are the Laos crossings (see the Laos visa run), or flying out.
Practical Notes
- Book online. The Division 5 booking page links a "Tak Immigration" calendar.
- Two phone numbers. The contact page lists 055-508-861 for the foreigner services sub-division and 055-563-000 for general staff. Call the first about extensions.
- Overstays carry re-entry bans. The office's charter reprints the national table, running from a 1-year ban for surrendering after more than 90 days to 10 years. Read overstay penalties first.

Not a separate one that we could find. The office's area page covers Mueang Tak, and the Immigration Bureau's Division 5 booking page lists a single Tak office. Residents of Tak town file in Mae Sot.
Can foreigners cross the Friendship Bridge to Myawaddy for a visa run?
We could not confirm it as of 27 September 2026. The checkpoint is listed as open daily, but no official notice we found says foreign tourists can currently cross. Call Tak Immigration before you travel.
Can Myanmar citizens enter Thailand visa-free at Mae Sot?
Not on the 14-day exemption, which applies to Myanmar nationals arriving at airports only. Crossing at the bridge needs a visa or a border pass.
How much is a visa extension in Mae Sot?
1,900 THB, once, for up to 30 days on a visa-exempt stay. Nationals on the Bureau's 7-day list, including India, get 7 days at most.
What are Tak immigration's opening hours?
