So if you live on Phangan, start here rather than taking the ferry to Samui. What the official site doesn't publish is the unit's opening hours or a list of the services it handles, so call before you travel with anything more than routine paperwork.

Phangan, Koh Tao, Samui: Which Unit Is Yours
Surat Thani Immigration's contact page lists four service points. The three island units are:

Koh Tao residents have their own unit. Koh Tao is part of Koh Phangan district, and its immigration unit sits on the 2nd floor of the district front office on the island. Call 077-456-947 to check what it can process before you plan a boat to Phangan or Samui.
If the Phangan unit can't take your case, the fallback is the provincial office: either the Samui unit or the mainland office at Thung Rang, Kanchanadit. Services and What to Bring
The official site does not list services unit by unit. The requirements below are the Immigration Bureau's national ones, which apply at every office. Ask the Phangan unit on 077-377-947 whether it processes your type of application, particularly for annual retirement, marriage or business extensions.
Extension of a visa-exempt or tourist stay
- Form TM.7, filed by you in person
- Copies of your passport photo page, visa (if any) and latest entry stamp
- One photo, 4 x 6 cm, taken within the last six months
- 1,900 THB fee
Nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda get no more than 7 days under the Bureau's criteria. Everyone else can get up to 30 days. More: visa exemption extension.
Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria, fee 1,900 THB. Retirement: age 50 or over, and either 65,000 THB a month in income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank held for two months before applying and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. Marriage to a Thai national: average income of 40,000 THB a month, or 400,000 THB in a Thai bank held for the previous two months. See the retirement extension guide.
90-day report (TM.47)
Free. The window runs from 15 days before to 7 days after your due date. Late reports mean going in person and paying 2,000 THB; if you're caught, it is 5,000 THB. Your first report can't be filed online: make it in person, through someone you authorise, or by registered post at least 15 days before the due date. After that, use tm47.immigration.go.th. Re-entry permit (TM.8)

TM30
Your landlord, host or hotel reports where you are staying, online at tm30.immigration.go.th. If you rent a villa or bungalow privately, ask the owner for the TM30 receipt and bring it with you. See the TM30 guide.
Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism, replacing the 60-day scheme. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days; Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are the only nationalities still on Visa on Arrival. You can extend a 30-day exempt stay once, by up to 30 days, for 1,900 THB (7 days for the nationalities above). Phangan's large remote-worker community mostly looks at the DTV. Since 31 August 2026 it must be applied for in your country of nationality or permanent residence, with a criminal record certificate, so a DTV can no longer be picked up on a trip to a neighbouring country. Retirees need a Non-Immigrant O or O-A. The visa finder will narrow it down.
Visa Runs from Koh Phangan
There is no border near the island. The nearest Myanmar crossing is Ranong-Kawthaung, by boat, on the Andaman coast; see Ranong Immigration and the Myanmar visa run guide. We could not confirm that foreign tourists can currently use it for a visa run, so check before you go. Malaysia via Hat Yai is the other overland option (Malaysia visa run). The Thai-Cambodian land border has been closed since July 2025, and since 15 September 2026 exempt entries through land borders are capped at two per calendar year.
Practical Notes
- Call first. With no published hours and no booking calendar, the phone number is the only reliable way to check the unit is open and can handle your application: 077-377-947.
- Book the Samui calendar as a fallback. The Immigration Bureau's Division 6 page has calendars for "Suratthani Immigration" and "Suratthani Immigration (Samui)", but none for Phangan.
