Surat Thani Immigration (ตรวจคนเข้าเมืองจังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี) is the provincial immigration office for Surat Thani, and its mainland office handles visa extensions, 90-day reports, re-entry permits and TM30 for foreigners living on the mainland side of the province. Two things catch people out. First, the office is not in Surat Thani town: its official address is 41/12 Moo 2, Tambon Thung Rang, in Kanchanadit district. Second, if you live on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao, you normally don't come here at all. The provincial office runs a separate unit on each island.

A note on the Samui address. The provincial office's contact page, which we read on 27 September 2026, gives the Samui unit as 333 Maenam Road, Soi 1, in Maenam, with phone 077-423-440. Older guides, and some map listings, still point to Na Thon. Call 077-423-440 before you make the trip.
Khanom and Sichon are across the provincial line in Nakhon Si Thammarat, so residents there file with Nakhon Si Thammarat Immigration, not here.
Services and What to Bring
The office's weekly service reports list what it handles: short-term and long-term extensions of stay, 90-day reports, re-entry permits and extensions for registered migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. They also show how busy it is. In the week of 17-21 August 2026 the office reported 356 short-term extensions (304 of them for tourism and 32 seven-day extensions), 301 long-term extensions (98 business, 54 retirement, 44 private-school study, 26 Thai family and 20 for families of foreigners with permission to stay) and 10,257 90-day reports, most of them from Myanmar workers.
Extension of a visa-exempt or tourist stay
The Immigration Bureau's published documents:
- Form TM.7, filed by you in person
- Copies of your passport photo page, visa (if any) and latest entry stamp
- One photo, 4 x 6 cm, taken within the last six months
- 1,900 THB fee
Under the Bureau's criteria, nationals of Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, Togo, Nigeria and Uganda get no more than 7 days. Everyone else can get up to 30 days. The seven-day extensions in the office's weekly figures are this rule at work. More detail: visa exemption extension.
Retirement and marriage extensions
National criteria, fee 1,900 THB:
- Retirement: age 50 or over, and either 65,000 THB a month in income, or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank held for two months before applying and three months after approval (then not below 400,000 THB), or a combination totalling 800,000 THB. See the retirement extension guide.
- Marriage to a Thai national: average income of 40,000 THB a month, or 400,000 THB in a Thai bank held for the previous two months.
90-day report (TM.47)
Free. File from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date. If you're late you report in person and pay 2,000 THB; if you're caught, the fine is 5,000 THB. The first report can't be made online: make it in person, through someone you authorise, or by registered post sent at least 15 days before the due date. After that, use tm47.immigration.go.th. Do You Need a Visa?
Since 15 September 2026, nationals of 60 countries and territories, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, most of Europe and India, get a 30-day visa exemption for tourism, replacing the 60-day scheme. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days; Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia are the only nationalities still on Visa on Arrival. At the airport the officer can ask for 20,000 THB per person (40,000 THB per family) and an onward ticket within your stay, and you file the TDAC at tdac.immigration.go.th within 3 days before arrival. At this office you can extend a 30-day exempt stay once, by up to 30 days, for 1,900 THB (7 days for the nationalities listed above). For longer stays you need a visa, usually applied for at thaievisa.go.th before you travel. Remote workers tend to look at the DTV, which since 31 August 2026 must be applied for in your country of nationality or permanent residence, with a criminal record certificate. Retirees need a Non-Immigrant O or O-A. The visa finder will narrow it down.
Nearby Border Crossings
Surat Thani province has no land border. The nearest Myanmar crossing is Ranong-Kawthaung, by boat, on the Andaman side; see Ranong Immigration and our Myanmar visa run guide. We could not confirm that foreign tourists can currently use it for a visa run, so check before you go. The Thai-Cambodian land border has been closed since July 2025. Since 15 September 2026, entries on the visa exemption through land borders are capped at two per calendar year.
Practical Notes
- Book online. The Immigration Bureau's Division 6 appointment page has separate calendars for "Suratthani Immigration" and "Suratthani Immigration (Samui)". Pick the one for your unit.
- Kanchanadit, not town. The official address is in Tambon Thung Rang, Kanchanadit district. Put the full address into your map app rather than searching "Surat Thani immigration".
- Samui Airport checkpoint is a separate point of entry, open daily 05:00-22:00 according to the Immigration Bureau. It checks arriving passengers; it is not where residents file extensions.
- Online extension portal. The Bureau's e-Extension system at thaiextension.vfsevisa.com is run by VFS Global. Check on the portal whether your type of extension is covered before you skip the trip.
